Gang Of Four - Content

If someone ask me at what bands I would bekennnen despite a ripe old age, a real fan Tum and accordingly rather uncritical Komplettismus tend noticed me exactly three Reviews Chic, Talking Heads and even the gang of four from Leeds.
did not take long for me so I hesitated, the fresh album site address, even though I knew only one Vorab-Song/Clip. Joe called Although the usual diplomatic way a "damn song" but because the flavors go well with anything apart ...
Judge for yourselves:

Then when I also read that occur Gang Of Four in March in Cologne Luxor (which was in the heyday of GO4 one of my favorite clubs in Cologne - yes, the bad 80's!) I bought me after some hesitation, of course, in a blind trust a card.
The feeling so excited to wait for a new album, I had honestly not felt for a very long time. A little bit of my excitement was marred only by the somewhat pushy self-promotion of the band on facebook.
(I have of course the Vinyl version ordered, because the CD has the same on board.)

The prior reviews were fairly positive so far, all the critical notes "Gang of Four have remained true to itself, nothing really new and offer sound exactly like earlier my excitement increased even more. Although there are only two heads of the original formation of it, but these are fortunately the sound formative Andy Gill and Jon King.
And Contend actually sounds as if had Gang of Four no 15-year break behind them, as there would have been in recent years, not heaps "GO4-inspired" new bands (which I actually only Radio 4 liked) and the two adit Bags still make Salon-Revoluzzer/zornige old men - and they do well! The new group will play the rhythm-trademark Zappel radio will sound to the point as the main cast, the voice almost unchanged, the beautiful guitar shredder .... Now, it shreds as ever!
I am able to sit still for a second while Contend running - and running right now damn often. So when I
time outside before the whole marketing antics leave me this album actually makes absolutely happy! ... And now I am as happy as Bolle to the gig!
(report follows, of course.)

Molest Train Short Story

Wanda Jackson - The Party Is not Over

Jack White qualified to continue to be the perfect producer, and son-in for something more mature ladies in show business.
Having recently been turned Loretta Lynn's comeback in the right direction, now the rock and roll pioneer and former Elvis playmate Wanda Jackson ("Let's Have a Party") to it.
In the domestic white studio in Nashville, he missed the pleasantly cool over the coming 73-year-olds a wonderfully dirty sound design - similar to Wanda's still rough and rasping voice, their sometimes shaky intonation perfect for rattling garage-soul fits all for its white knits with organ, (his) guitar and wonderfully typical pig rough winds on the body.
More importantly, however, the song selection, because this is gecovert restraint: from age ("Shakin 'All Over," Rip It Up, "" Busted ") and new (" You Know I'm No Good "by Amy Winehouse!), from blues to country to rock and roll.

Besides Jack White to play here with people from My Morning Jacket and Raconteurs, Karen Elson sings background. What does White for the ladies, is ultimately the hearty equivalent to what can Rick Rubin, however, quite minimalist garment bestowed the gray-haired seniors. The next to White list, I would like Dolly Parton, whose "Jolene" he has with the White Stripes played indeed.

The Fabulous Penetrators over Cologne

... it's Thursday afternoon, I'm just been released on the job, am very tired and I have a headache.
Sounds like a beautiful Wednesday? That's right!

noon proposed R-man on, we then prepared reputable with a huge portion of pasta around then (with a brief stopover in the second-hand record store) to drive to Traxman where very tired acting Penetrators first Kölsch variety of day-fed. Since we joined, of course, gladly, while Crispin a colorful potpourri of Traxmans impressive Singles Collection hung up. It went from Link Wray to the German "Ca plane pour moi" cover version of the good old Benny . How nice to have heard the .....!

was the drive to Sonic Ballroom, thanks to my nonexistent sense of orientation and R-man's confused Navi unnecessarily long, but Liam and Joao offered the opportunity for a short nap. The rest was much earlier in the taxi on the spot, but had to stand around out there longer, because the bar was still closed. But when the chef appeared shortly afterwards and we had found in the light of our cell phone displays and the light switch, was the beer grades two and three and the (as always) but annoying sovereign solid sound check no more obstacles.

The store was filled, unfortunately, very slow, at 22:00 then the men climbed the stage, before about 40 guests had gathered. Why use Liam in the band credits "vocals, lead Maracas and Make-Up" is was thanks to his stage outfit again soon clear.

A loud roaring and rocking clubs by STRING hour later I had a slight ringing in your ears and beers, four and five in the stomach. That the penetrator does not write songs that one should immediately go into the ear to be known, but leaves the stage presence and energy of the men always attracted me back. That the new guitarist Steven is a real asset, mentioned already Whirly friend - and as the man also absolutely right!

Following Traxman still put on a fantastic set for a garage, is now constantly filled, Ballroom. Large plate art in a really great pub !

R-Man and I were then half-way adopted in time and this morning both not looked back.

Who has the opportunity to look at this rock and roll event, this should do mandatory.
... eg this evening in the beautiful cathedral!

Messrs. Traxman and R-man, I wish you much fun on the rest of the tour. Fits well on the rascals (and you) up!

Brazilian Wax With A Hemorrhoid

80s commentary
You could not hear in many a almost a sigh of relief echo through the blog, K-Nut after the end of the furious, ever-popular series , Golden Moments of Soul the 80s' announced.
Shortly before the end but I am yet occurred to the I on this issue always had time to think who would then be called any more. Cameo to the Electronic funkateer Larry Blackmon should also be mentioned here yet.
Sure, Word Up , each must have been 3000x endure. I put the right time but always enjoy time on. As the saying goes: A classic is a classic is a classic ...
have side this unbreakable number Cameo before, but delivered some plates. Was quite surprised as this was what all of it in the discography. Up to Word up! of 1986 had already brought out 12 albums Cameo, the only likely in the then club scene importance were obtained.
I have known them only those with whom I started my funk and soul-socialization in the 80s. Once Single Life of 1985 and She's Strange of 1984 - two plates studded with outstanding songs. For some, perhaps in phases the perfect Bums soundtrack, from a purely musical point of view but considered a unique, sometimes laid back, sometimes almost psychedelic, but again edged Electronic-Funk sound with nice, fat bass lines and the usual for that time , ever-present, hovering synthesizer sounds.
Absolute tips: She's strange (best in the 12-RAP-Version), Single Life and I've got your image . For incomes can definitely recommend the Best of Cameo from the Funk Essentials series.
What would make the Lords today to know quite interesting. Cameo was probably one of the last great radio-Acts, which had then passed the torch to gradually all hip-hop.

Dept. stinking self-promotion:
Diplomats Of Solid Sound - Hip Drop / I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song)

Good Lord, as we are all so keen on the small black vinyl 7-inches and smooth forgot to present one of the very best of the last time here. Especially since the thing also appeared on Stag-O-Lee and here is hot off the press to be had for just four neuron. Ridiculous.

The octet from Iowa City with a two exclusive and exquisite cover versions: funky-soul music with hip drop the A-side (from New Orleans legend Eddie Bo written and performed by The Explosions) and I'm Blue ( The Gong-Gong Song) on the flipside. a
Rhythm & Blues at it's finest and The Ikettes Hit - Ike Turner was the main perpetrator here.

know most of you probably in the version 5.6.7.8.'s From Tarantino's "Kill Bill".

must-have!

Soul Golden Moments Of The Eighties
Womack & Womack

... well, I have long struggled with whether I love this youth at all times from the shelf as they prefer to listen to the last 28 years (shit, I'm old!) has survived.

Joe has once again contributed to gentle pressure, but now that I've beaten one night with Mr. and Mrs. Womack to the ears ...

Surprisingly, just the oldest Womack & Womack album the time it is best to take. Love Wars of 1983, I would really a "classic" mean. Of course, suffers from this LP (as almost all 80-productions) in penetrating nasty synths and drum sounds, but the songs are mostly really great and the whole thing does have a lotta soul. Due to the unusual arrangements (both voices and instruments), the two had at that time a rather unique sound.
(Cecil Womack is the brother of Bobby Womack and the husband (and uncle) by Linda Womack, who is the daughter of Sam Cooke ...)

album No.2 Radio MUSC Man (1985) has almost over all the strengths of Love Wars, also quite homogeneous in quality, but the quality of the songs is not enough to even approach so entirely at's debut - but as a collective work still the most contemporary productions far superior .

What the two of them were going with album number three ( Starbright ) I can now so do not even understand: hideous cover, ugly clothes that disappeared so typical percussion sounds almost completely horrible Bumm-splash-Drumming (by James Gadson ?!?), really terrible keyboard carpets, lame songs (the only one is reasonably suited by Bobby Womack) and an obscure single release (Soul Love / Soul Man). Because although the brothers singing Womack (The Valentinos) but with the whole thing is so stupid fed shoots with synth sounds that I did not long endure. ... Away with it!

Album Number Four: Whether Mr. and Mrs. Womack had noticed as well, which had botched it last put down? Conscience (1988) has revived the old levels, production (Compass Point), Chris Blackwell's finger, the very expensive bigotry is missing this time, beautiful atmospheric, rather quiet songs that sounds relatively timeless - the CD can also Listen with your ears 2011er-good!
The second page begins with the hit Teardrops , of the two has probably saved the pension. Celebrate The World (last song of the LP) was then probably a return Chuck (... and a crap song !)
Otherwise, a relatively nice drive - also in the look-up! (You may not make a keyboard allergy) What spoils the whole thing has me a little was the fact that has dragged the couple's extensive children's band both on record sleeves like on stage. W & W I have seen live this year and I was thoroughly ashamed of strange!

... and just start with these families grits W & W also their fifth album. Children's laughter in the intro to Family Spirit - It's even a bit intrusive? Most hardly relevant - and also already in the nineties.

At some point they renamed all ( Transformation To The House Of Zekkariyas ) and dressed in flowing robes. Since then I have somehow lost patience and desire - please forgive me ....

Conclusion:
Love Wars
- actually a Golden Soul Moment Of The Eighties (if you like's to mind),
Radio MUSC Man
- is fit
Conscience - better than its reputation

(.... and now I hear the Excellos around my ears again been dusted freizubekommen that Päärchen pack for the next 28 years back, and make final conclusion on this issue! Promised)

Excellos -! Mellow Down Easy

Jau, The I prefer the kind Excellos so since the day when I could hear their debut album the first time. Always nice rough stubborn straight, no fuss, no frills, but plenty of thrills. Like the new song, your version of the classic Mellow Down Easy, which will be probably be found on the second album, but this Days in advance on 7 "will appear.
Unfortunately not on Stag-O-Lee.
